A man has been charged over a crash that killed a four-year old girl in Birmingham.

Mayar Yahia died after being hit by a car on 14 April on Upper Highgate Street, police said.

Javonnie Tavener, 23, was charged with causing death by careless driving, causing death while driving uninsured and two counts of causing serious injury by careless driving.

Mr Tavener, of no fixed address, appeared at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Wednesday and was remanded in custody to appear at the city's crown court on 30 July, West Midlands Police said.

After her death, Mayar's father Babiker said she was an "extraordinary young girl", "full of life and joy."

"Her absence leaves an irreplaceable void in our lives," he added.

Three others were hurt in the crash.
