'Dangerous' driver led police on 115mph chase

A driver who sped away from police at 115mph and crashed into a lamppost has been jailed.
Liam Collins, 35, of Carnforth Crescent, Grimsby, was arrested after "driving dangerously", crashing into a lamppost and fleeing his BMW on 24 November, police said.
He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, failing to provide a specimen of breath for a breath test and failing to stop when required to do so.
Collins was sentenced to 18 months in prison at Lincoln Crown Court on Thursday and was also disqualified from driving for five years and nine months.
Lincolnshire Police said Collins was spotted by officers clipping a kerb in Louth before swerving around the road, over the central white lines and repeatedly braking along the A16.
Collins sped off from police through Utterby village, overtaking vehicles and reaching speeds of more than 115mph, the force said.
They added he was driving on the wrong side of the road and passed through red lights before colliding with a lamppost in a residential estate.
Police said Collins freed his car from the lamppost and drove it further before stopping and fleeing his vehicle. He was then arrested by officers.
Collins must also pass an extended test of competence and has been ordered to pay fines and a victim surcharge of £207.
