A driver who "turned his black Kia into a weapon" by ramming it into a man on a scooter has been jailed.

Omar Harris, 33, of no fixed address, struck the victim at just after 14:00 BST on 1 August in Eagle Way, Northstowe, near Cambridge.

He was called to the scene by his girlfriend after an argument she was having with the victim escalated, said Cambridgeshire Police.

Harris pleaded guilty to one count each of attempted grievous bodily harm and dangerous driving at Peterborough Crown Court and was sentenced to two years and three months in prison.

The victim, who was in his 20s, suffered superficial injuries to his legs, arms and back and was able to flee the scene on foot, police said.

Harris flipped the Kia on to its side, but got out of the car unharmed, police said.

Harris also caused considerable damage to a parked Fiat 500 in Stirling Road while heading to the scene and failed to stop and report it.

Det Con Callum Fullwood said: "The level of violence used by Harris in this case was appalling.

"He used his car as a weapon and can consider himself lucky that no one was killed and that no other innocent members of the public were injured by his reckless actions."

Harris was disqualified from driving for a year and 10 months and has been given a restraining order not to contact the victim until further notice.
