A trailer containing "crucial" training equipment worth about £11,000 has been stolen, a charity has said.

Blackburn Sea Cadets is asking for help to find its trailer, which was found to have been taken from a secure compound in Walker Park in Blackburn.

Chairman Jacob Knowles said the charity, which uses Fishmoor Reservoir to train its cadets stores kit including paddles and distinctive safety equipment in the trailer.

He said the trailer must have been towed away and believed it happened about two weeks ago. He appealed for anyone with information to contact Blackburn Sea Cadets or Lancashire Police.

The BBC has contacted Lancashire Police for comment.

Mr Knowles said: "That kit gave us the opportunity to give young people 600 hours of boating time on the water last year.

"Without that equipment we can't do that."

The Sea Cadets charity offers maritime training and leadership experiences for children aged between 10 and 18.
