Police have launched an investigation after a pedestrian was hit by a van in Leicester.

Officers were called to the junction where Evington Lane meets Evington Road at about 19:00 GMT on Friday.

The pedestrian, a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital with injuries that "are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing".

A Leicestershire Police spokesman said the van "left the scene prior to police arriving", adding nobody has been arrested and inquiries are "ongoing".

Det Sgt Jack Cornick, from the force's serious collision investigation unit, said: "While the report we received stated a van was involved, we are keeping an open mind as to the make, model and type of vehicle.

"Our investigation is continuing and I'm appealing for anyone who can help to get in touch."
