Boy, 2, dies after 'medical episode' at nursery

A two-year-old boy has died after he had "a fatal medical episode" at a nursery, police have said.

Detectives are investigating the child's death after emergency services were called to Early Learners Day Nursery in Bootle on Merseyside just after 12:30 GMT on Tuesday, Merseyside Police said.

The boy was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The force said the full circumstances around his death were still yet to be established.

The boy's family is being supported by specialist officers, it added.

Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that an investigation is under way following reports that a two-year-old boy suffered a fatal medical episode at a children's nursery in Bootle.

"An investigation has been commenced to establish the full circumstances and cause of death."

The nursery on Hawthorne Road is currently closed.
