It is hoped a restored sign in St Peter Port will make the area more attractive for tourists and locals.

The previously black 'Welcome to the Old Quarter' sign was removed from the bottom of Mill Street in early January after concerns of it being dangerous.

Local contractors Siteweld removed the old paint and rust which had deteriorated, treated the sign and repainted blue and gold.

Diane Mitchell, senior constable, said: "This is part of our vision to make the town more attractive for locals and visitors alike."

She continued: "We expect that the sign will now continue to welcome people to the Mill Street area for many more years to come."

The sign was put up on 9 March and can be seen at the bottom of Mill Street.
