A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after threatening hoax calls were made to three schools.

Essex Police said calls were made to two in Colchester and one in Tendring on Tuesday afternoon.

The force said it "responded swiftly" and worked with the schools "to ensure the safety and wellbeing of pupils and staff".

The boy, from Colchester, was arrested on suspicion of making a hoax bomb threat and causing a public nuisance, and remains in police custody for questioning.

A police spokesperson said inquiries "soon established the threats were unlikely to be of a credible nature".

"At this stage, nothing found during our investigation has indicated that the threats made were in any way viable or likely to be carried out," they added.

Both schools followed safety protocols, as a precaution, and would be kept updated, the force said.
