An 18-year-old man has died and three teenage boys have been seriously injured in a crash in Shropshire.

Emergency services were called to Offoxey Road in Tong, near Shifnal, after a silver Audi A1 crashed shortly after 23:00 GMT on Friday.

Bystanders were caring for the 18-year-old before paramedics took over, but he was later pronounced dead at the scene, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

Two 17-year-old boys in the car were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and remain in a critical condition, West Mercia Police said. Another boy in the car, also 17, sustained life-changing injuries and is in a stable condition.

"This is an incredibly sad incident and first and foremost our thoughts remain with the family of the man who died, and those who are seriously injured," said Insp Steph Arrowsmith, of the force's serious collision investigation unit.

"We're asking for the public to help us understand what happened last night."

Police have appealed for information from anyone who might have seen the car travelling on Wood Road or Boscobel Lane, from Codsall towards Bishops Wood, shortly before the crash.

Officers said the Audi had been travelling with a red Vauxhall Corsa and a black Volkswagen Golf, which were not involved in the crash.

"Although they were not involved in any way in the collision we're hoping that this may help to jog people's memories," the force said of the two other vehicles.
