Roads were closed off after the suspect device was found

A road was cordoned off near a town centre because of a possible unexploded shell.

A 100m (328ft) area at Bourne Bridge in Ipswich was closed off to the public.

The roads affected were the the A137 Wherstead Road, the B1456 The Strand and the A137 Hawes Street roundabouts.

However, at 16:30 GMT, Suffolk Police said the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) "made the device safe".

The force said the cordon was lifted and the roads had reopened.

EOD robots and remote controlled vehicles are operated by the Army.
