More than 100 repairs on way along busy road

More than 120 repairs will be made to a Staffordshire junction next week as part of a major highways improvement scheme.

The work, on the Buxton Road/Stockwell Street junction in Leek, will start on Monday and take about two weeks.

Crews from Staffordshire County Council will repair potholes and footpaths, fix and replace damaged kerbs and ironworks, clear drains and ditches and update signs.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place for the scheme, which will be delivered in stages, starting at the four-way junction before moving along Buxton Road.

The scheme gets under way as the authority announced a an additional investment of up to £15m into the county's highways, on top of an extra £45m over three years.

The council said the additional money would allow more repairs to potholes and drainage issues, a preventative maintenance programme to help stop defects forming and targeted enforcement on landowners with drainage issues affecting the highway.
