A former Devon and Cornwall Police officer is to go on trial after denying he harassed a woman by sending letters to her employer.

Harry Tangye, 56, a retired firearms response officer from Lusty Glaze Road, Newquay, appeared at Bodmin Magistrates' Court on Thursday where he denied non-violent harassment of Sofia Cann between August and September 2024.

The court heard Tangye was accused of sending letters via email to Ms Cann's employers with the intention of "discrediting her".

Magistrates adjourned the case for a trial to be heard at Truro Magistrates' Court on 7 November.

Prosecutor Paul Gallagher told magistrates it was alleged in August 2024 Tangye sent emails that could discredit Ms Cann to her line manager at a university in West Yorkshire.

Tangye was granted bail until the trial date on condition "he makes no contact, by any media" with Sofia Cann.

The former armed response officer retired from the Devon and Cornwall force in 2020.
