Copper wiring stolen from mobile CT scanner

A police investigation is under way after copper wiring was stolen from a mobile computed tomography (CT) scanner.

Derbyshire Police said it happened in the grounds of Walton Hospital in Chesterfield between 21:00 and 21:30 GMT on Tuesday.

The hospital said the theft led to a loss of power and resulted in delays for dozens of patients awaiting scans and potential diagnoses.

The scanner has since been repaired and is back up and running.

Sarah Roberts-Morris, general manager for diagnostic services at Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said she was "deeply disappointed and sad" over the incident.

"I want to thank our colleagues who have worked hard to inform patients and reschedule appointments as quickly as possible, and our patients for their understanding and patience," she added.
