Man charged after town centre dog attack

A 33-year-old man has been charged with a number of offences following a dog attack on Monday, according to police.
Officers were called to Bath Street in Rugby just after 15:30 GMT on Monday, following reports that a boy walking his dog had been approached by three loose dogs.
The 33-year-old man was charged with two counts of having a dog dangerously out of control causing injury - one from 2023 and one from 2025.
He also faced an animal welfare charge, two charges of possessing an offensive weapon and one charge of possessing a Class B drug.
He is due to appear at Coventry Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Warwickshire Police said three members of the public suffered wounds to their hands and face when they tried to intervene to help the boy and his dog.
A total of 10 dogs were seized following the attack.
They were believed to include five American bulldogs, four bull breed juveniles and one Jack Russell.
Police said the three believed to be American bulldogs were involved in attacking the boy's dog.
The BBC understands the boy's dog has since been seen by a vet and is expected to recover.
The injuries sustained by the members of the public who rushed to help were not being treated as life-changing, police said.
All the seized dogs were unharmed and safely in police kennels, the force added.
