Residents were reported to be in the two-storey semi-detached house as the fire took hold and one person was airlifted to hospital, with six others driven to hospital by ambulance.
The fire service said there was no sign the blaze had spread to adjourning properties, while South Wales Police said the incident was ongoing and advised people to avoid the area.
Six ambulances and an air ambulance were sent to the scene, along with five fire crews and it took until 07:00 to ensure the fire was out.
South Wales Police said there was "a heavy emergency service presence in the area".
