Train line reopens after Storm Bert flooding

A train line has reopened after its tracks were flooded following Storm Bert.

Northern's services between Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria and Lancaster were expected to be cancelled until Friday due to problems near Ulverston.

However, Network Rail said its team cleared more than 240 tonnes of debris from the line on Monday allowing the service to operate, although trains are moving at 20mph compared to the usual 40mph.

A permanent repair will be carried out as soon as possible, Network Rail said.

Engineers attended the site at Ulverston last week to stem the flow of a stream, which had found its way on to the track, but on Saturday melting snow overwhelmed the watercourse and caused a flood.
