Vacant Grade II listed pub to become flats

An old vacant pub in Wiltshire will soon be transformed into flats after plans were approved.

The Grade II listed John Barleycorn pub on Weymouth Street, Warminster, will be turned into nine flats, with the basement of the building developed into four offices for commercial use.

According to developers Robert Selwood, the site has been vacant since 2016 and was marketed unsuccessfully in 2019.

Wiltshire Council's conservation officer said the impact of the development would be "largely positive" and the scheme would bring the vacant building "back into use".

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the application stated: "The proposals will involve a substantial enhancement of the fabric of the listed building and will being back in to use an attractive and prominent town centre property."

It added: "The proposed apartments will be generously sized and will be served by appropriate levels of parking for the location."

The flats were approved by the council on Thursday.
