Fish and chip shop CCTV catches moment tip jar is stolen

Police are investigating the theft of a tip jar from a fish and chip shop.

The brazen act was captured on Captain Fish's indoor CCTV cameras, showing a woman taking the jar filled with cash and hiding it in her bag.

Accompanied by a man, the pair had entered the takeaway on Westmorland Street in Wakefield city centre under the pretence of asking for a fork - despite having bought no food.

Owner Petros Georgieou described the situation as "sad".

He said: "They had asked for a plastic fork so my wife had come through to the restaurant side for just two seconds.

"When she returned, she saw the tip jar had disappeared and so we checked the cameras. I feel sorry for them to be honest."

West Yorkshire Police said: "Police received a report of theft of a tip jar from premises in Westmorland Street, Wakefield city centre, said to have taken place at 14:45 BST on Tuesday, 1 April. The matter is being investigated."
