Campaign launched to help rare field crickets

A conservation project is taking place in Jersey this weekend to help a rare type of field cricket.
Grantez is home to a species of cricket called Gryllus Campestris.
National Trust Jersey is hosting an event on Saturday to restore their habitat by removing gorse and tall vegetation to create more grassed areas.
Louise Whale, a conservation officer at National Trust Jersey, said: "These crickets are particularly special because we know that they have declined in numbers and it has had its range restricted over the years."
Ms Whale said Grantez is the only area in Jersey you can see them in high numbers.
She said the main way to protect them is by providing "suitable habitat management."
She said "crickets like short grassed areas, so they can dig their burrows out" and the work should help them "continue to thrive".
