Fire crews rescued a horse using specialist equipment after it fell over.

Smarty, a 27-year-old horse, fell in the yard of a stable in Buckwyns Chase, Billericay, on Saturday afternoon.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said Smarty was lying on the concrete when crews arrived and was being looked after by a vet.

Using a winch, they managed to move him safely and help him back onto his feet. Smarty was left in the care of the vet.
