A teenage boy arrested after members of the public were sprayed with a chilli oil mixture in a branch of Costco has been released on police bail.

The superstore, at Avonmouth in Bristol, was evacuated just after 18:30 GMT on Monday after 10 people - including the boy - complained of stinging or itchy eyes and skin.

Police were called and he was arrested on suspicion of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and administering a noxious substance.

His bail conditions include not returning to the Costco, Avon and Somerset Police said.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service also attended the scene and tested the substance, which they say was "found to be unharmful".

The liquid is believed to be a type of home-made chilli spray with no strong acid or alkaline ingredients, according to police.

Officers have appealed for anybody with information about the incident to contact them.
