A memorial running race is set to take place to honour the life of a beloved athlete who died in a road crash.

Arthur Whiston, 73, was cycling home when he was involved in an accident in Argents Lane near West Bergholt in Essex on 5 July 2024.

Colchester Harriers AC - Mr Whiston's running club - has organised the first anniversary event which is due to start as the garrison athletics track in the city at 09:30 BST on Sunday.

"Arthur was incredibly loved by the community," said Lydia Cunningham, who organised the event with Richard Pickering - both from Colchester Harriers AC.

He was a "very kind man who was very highly thought of and popular", added Ms Cunningham, who knew him since 1986.

The money raised from the event is set to be donated to the Essex Wildlife Trust, a charity which Mr Whiston supported.

Runners can still turn up on the day of the event and register to take part.
