Treasure House open day to celebrate £3.3m revamp

A cultural venue in East Yorkshire is to host an open day to mark its £3.3m renovation.

Champney Treasure House in Beverley closed in September 2023 and reopened in December 2024 following a year-long refurbishment.

The free event, which includes music performances, craft activities and treasure hunts, is due to be held on Saturday between 10:00 and 15:00 GMT.

Councillor Nick Coultish, cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: "The event is a great way for people to see the impressive improvements to Champney Treasure House and to also see exactly what is on offer."

During the event, which has been funded by Arts Council England, local artists Tess Fletcher, Casey Adam and Laura Da Sousa will be performing in the foyer and the New York Brass Band will be playing on the streets.

The building was renamed in honour of local businessman John Edward Champney, who made several donations to the original Beverley Public Library and Art Gallery.

It now houses the town's register office, customer service centre and tourism information centre.

Improvements were also made to the existing museum, archives and art gallery, the council has previously said.
