A man has been charged with murder over a shooting in Birmingham.

Riyan Ali, 19, was found injured in Alderson Road, Washwood Heath, shortly before 22:30 GMT on 19 October and died in hospital two days later.

Seraaj Ayub, 23, was arrested on Wednesday and charged on Thursday by West Midlands Police.

He appeared before city magistrates on Friday on three additional charges of kidnap, blackmail and false imprisonment relating to an incident on 1 October.

He was remanded in custody and will next appear at court on 28 February.

In a previous tribute to Mr Ali, his family said he embraced life with "enthusiasm and grace" and had "boundless potential".

"He had a unique ability to uplift those around him, always ready with a smile or a listening ear", they added.
