Finance heads said the industry is the island's "main business" with taxes funding many public services

People thinking of standing in Guernsey's election later this year have been invited to learn more about the island's finance industry.

Finance leaders are running a free session for aspiring deputies to help them learn about Guernsey's place in international finance.

The one-hour session will take place at the offices of the Guernsey Financial Services Commission (GFSC) in St Peter Port on 4 March.

William Mason, GFSC's director general, said finance was the island's "main business" with the taxes it raised allowing Guernsey to "provide many public services".

'Supportive ecosystem'

He said: "We would be pleased to see anyone who is considering standing to be a deputy in the upcoming election and who would like to come along to hear more about the nature of finance sector in Guernsey and what helps it work, as well as the role the private sector, Guernsey Finance, and the Commission play in nurturing a supportive ecosystem."

The session is being run by GFSC jointly with Guernsey Finance and the Guernsey International Business Association (GIBA).

Paul Sykes, chair of GIBA, said the session was an opportunity to learn about "the industry's complexities, the collaborative efforts that keep it competitive, and how it supports the island's long-term prosperity".
