A bus operator has confirmed it will switch off public wi-fi on some of its fleet this year.

Nottingham City Transport said its diesel and biogas buses needed on-board equipment replaced to maintain the service.

But the firm said as only 5% of passengers logged on, it "cannot justify the cost of new equipment or the annual data charges".

The switch-off is planned in "early 2025", it added.

A spokesperson said the decision had been taken "reluctantly" and apologised for inconvenience caused.

The city's electric buses will continue to offer wi-fi, said the bus company, and all new buses will also have the feature.
