Residents have been allowed to return to their homes after explosives experts had to deal with a device at a property in a Carmarthenshire town.

Explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) experts were called to an address on New Dock Road, Llanelli, on Wednesday evening where a device was "made safe", Dyfed-Powys Police said.

A 57-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of offences under the Explosive Substances Act and remains in custody.

A 100m (382ft) cordon was put in place around the area for public safety, but people have now been told they can return to their homes.

"We no longer believe there is any wider threat to the public," police said.

A rest centre had been set up at Llanelli Leisure Centre for residents impacted earlier in the evening.

The force added that officers will remain at the location overnight while enquiries continue.
