Repair options are being examined at a south of Scotland school where part of the roof blew off during Storm Darragh.

Castle Douglas High School was badly damaged during an amber warning for high winds in the area at the weekend.

A spokesman for Dumfries and Galloway Council (DGC) said the school was open and pupils were able to get in and out of the building "in a safe manner".

He added that more detailed inspections of the damage had started with a view to finding a "repair solution".

A number of roads were closed by fallen trees and other damage was caused to properties during the storm at the weekend.

Strong winds tore a large section of the roof off the Dumfries and Galloway secondary, landing partially on another part of the school.

The council said initial inspections had been carried out and more detailed work had started.

"This is being done with no adverse effect on teaching time or resource," said a spokesman.

"The repair work will be completed once the inspections are complete and the job has been fully scoped and costed.

"The school community will be kept up to date as the repair progresses."
