New maps to inspire accessible forest walks

Three new maps are being released to inspire "accessible and enjoyable walks" in the Forest of Dean.
Canopy Creative Network has designed the maps for people who have difficulty walking.
The illustrated maps received support from the district council, and feature carefully designed routes of around a mile each.
"We knew there was a demand for routes suitable for people with mobility issues and we are delighted to be able to create these new maps to encourage more people to get out into nature," said Canopy's chair, Rob Olins.

"One of Canopy's aims is to support local artists so we were pleased to hire a local illustrator to design the maps. Becky Embling has done a wonderful job in creating these beautiful designs."
Canopy has previously run small artist tours of the forest, allowing participants to try creative activities, it hopes the new walks will inspire people by making nature more interactive and inviting.
The circular routes start at Linear Park, the Cyril Hart Arboretum and Lower Soudley Pond.
Each map marks benches and points of interest to encourage walkers to stop and engage with their surroundings.
