Venue that hosted The Beatles set to reopen
BBCA venue which has remained closed since it was used as a vaccination centre during the Covid pandemic is to reopen after a new operator was confirmed.
Salisbury City Hall - which has previously welcomed performers such as David Bowie and The Beatles - will be run by Music Entertainment Culture and Arts (Meca).
The organisation has signed a 25-year lease agreement with Wiltshire Council which is currently carrying out repairs to the building.
Meca manager Justin Britchford said the organisation had listened to the views of local people on what they wanted to happen to the venue.
Meca has a well-known venue in Swindon which it fully refurbished in 2010 but it said City Hall would continue to be known by its original name.
Opening in 1961, City Hall has capacity for more than 1,000 people.
It has previously played host to Led Zeppelin as well as household names from the world of comedy.
"We are delighted to have been given this opportunity and cannot wait to get started," Mr Britchford said.
"Wiltshire Council has worked tirelessly with us to make sure the venue will be a roaring success.
"We have some great plans for the venue and have listened to people's views on what they have missed the most while it has been closed."
He said the company was working with people living nearby to "tap into their wealth of knowledge about City Hall and the surrounding area".
Mr Britchford added that Meca had hired local managers with experience in similar venues.
Wiltshire Council has been repairing and making improvements to the exterior of the building.
The council said it went through "a long process" to find a new operator.
It added that Meca's plans for the building marked a new era for City Hall.
