Children urged to 'get active' with 10p swims
Getty ImagesChildren's Easter break swimming sessions costing 10p have been announced by another Cumbrian council.
From Monday 7 until Friday 18 April, sessions at allocated times will be available for youngsters aged up to 16 at Copeland Pool in Whitehaven, Carlisle's Sands Centre, Wigton Baths and Cockermouth and Workington leisure centres.
Cumberland Council, which has run similar offers during previous school breaks, described it as part of efforts to encourage children to "get active".
Westmorland and Furness Council has also confirmed the return of 10p sessions from Monday 7 to Friday 11 April at Barrow Leisure Centre and the following week at Dalton Leisure Centre.
Cumberland Councillor Anne Quilter said the move would "support families during a cost-of-living crisis".
The local authorities say the schemes proved popular during previous school breaks with a report for Westmorland and Furness finding more than 800 youngsters took part at Barrow Leisure Centre in February's half term.
It said children who would "not normally access" pools took advantage of the offer.
