Mystery knitter recreates VE Day party conga

A mystery knitter has recreated scenes of VE Day revellers doing a conga around Leicester's Clock Tower.

Parties took place in Leicester and across the UK on 8 May 1945 to mark the defeat of Germany and the end of World War Two in Europe.

Syston Knitting Banxy (SKB) - who keeps her identity secret - said she had "lovingly recreated the dancing figures in yarn" and was contacting a relative of one of the dancers so they could be photographed with it.

The postbox topper, which includes a woollen clock tower, is on Syston's High Street.

The knitted creation has won the praise of some passersby.

Andrew Stafford, 61, from Mountsorrel, said it was "absolutely brilliant".

He added: "The person that does this is just wonderful and every time there's a special occasion, they come up with another creation and each creation seems to get better."

Jacqueline Harkin-Ashley, 57, from Queniborough, said: "The hours that it must have taken.

"I didn't know this happened actually, so it's fantastic... they deserve some sort of recognition."
