Four peregrine falcon chicks hatch at town hall

Four peregrine falcon chicks have hatched at Leamington Town Hall.

Two adult birds have nested in the town's Grade II-listed building since 2017, with four eggs laid in March.

Warwickshire Wildlife Trust said the tiny chicks, which emerged at the end of April, had soft white feathers and half-closed eyes, and were "completely reliant on their mum and dad for food and warmth".

The chicks, whose feathers will change to brown and then slate grey, would be ready to fledge in June, the trust said.

It added that 32 eggs had been laid in Leamington since 2017 and 27 healthy chicks had fledged.

The trust said the population of the birds of prey had previously fallen dramatically, however it had started to make a comeback, particularly in towns where they could nest in tall buildings.
