Gas being restored to homes after water in pipes
Gas is being restored to about 3,000 homes and businesses in north London which were left without a supply after water "flooded" into gas pipes.
A burst water main filled the gas network in the Muswell Hill area on 13 January, said Cadent, which manages the UK's National Gas Emergency Service.
Vicky Grieve, the company's network director, thanked residents and said she appreciated it had been "a frustrating experience, and it isn't nice to be without gas, but I'm pleased to say that the end is in sight".
More than 50,000 litres of water were pumped from the gas network and engineers have been reconnecting properties.
'Purge and relight'
Ms Grieve said householders need to be home or leave a key with a neighbour so engineers can access the remaining homes.
She added: "If you can't be in, don't worry; we will visit your property three times, and if we still can't gain access, we will leave a card with contact information on it so you can call us to arrange a 'purge and relight' visit at a convenient time."
She also stressed the importance of waiting for Cadent to switch the supply on, and not for residents to try doing it themselves.
