Plans to upgrade a park in Wolverhampton have been given the go-ahead by councillors.

The project will see play equipment replaced at Northwood Park in Bushbury, as well as a new multi-use games area (Muga) built.

City of Wolverhampton Council, which also submitted the planning application, said the play area would include items suitable for children with reduced mobility.

The new asphalt-cement surface Muga will be built next to the existing skate park and basketball pitch, and will be used primarily to play football and cricket, the local authority said.

A design and access statement included with the application said that would replace a grass pitch, which was currently being used for informal games of football.

The play area is expected to be redesigned to accommodate the new equipment and more than 40 trees will be planted to increase biodiversity.

New fencing will also be installed.
