We're celebrating Scotland while New York protests - Cumming

Alan Cumming has told the BBC he feels it "ironic" that Scots are celebrating during Tartan Week while New Yorkers are protesting against the US government.

The Scottish actor is in the Big Apple to lead the Tartan Day Parade through Manhattan as its Grand Marshall.

Meanwhile opponents of President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk are rallying across the US on Saturday against government downsizing, the economy, human rights and other issues.

Cumming said the festivities were a celebration of Scottish legacy, culture and freedoms – "really what America is lacking these days," he said.
