Strike action

The Unite union strongly denies the accusation made by the leader of Birmingham City Council.

NEU members say money is being spent on services which could be provided by the council for free.

A new offer on pay and conditions was rejected by union members, who say the Glasgow subway is struggling to operate.

"We have to hold our nose every time we step out", one Birmingham resident says.

John Cotton says the authority continues to urge Unite to accept the deal on the table.

No dates have been set for action but TSSA said "any action" will affect services in the summer months.

Unions warn the move would add further pressure on teacher workload and impact job recruitment.

Workers were set to strike over safety concerns around the number of people working on the river.
