A jury found Joseph Aylett not guilty after he was charged with corruption

A Sussex Police officer has been found not guilty of corruption.

PC Joseph Aylett, of Blackbridge Lane in Horsham, was charged in August with allowing an assault suspect he knew to walk free after an incident in Crawley in 2022.

The charge followed an Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigation but PC Aylett denied wrongdoing, and a jury at Canterbury Crown Court found him not guilty on Friday.

"Now the criminal investigation has concluded, the force will progress internal misconduct proceedings," Sussex Police said.

IOPC director Emily Barry said the watchdog "will be liaising with the force around disciplinary matters."
