Stretch of busy road to close as cracks are fixed

A busy stretch of road in Leicester is set to be closed so its damaged surface can be repaired.

Leicester City Council said the carriageway on University Road had become pitted and cracked over time because of wear and tear from traffic and winter weather.

It said work to fix the faults would start on Saturday and last for seven days.

More than 4,100 sq m (44,132 sq ft) of road surface will be replaced in the £130,000 scheme, the authority said.

The road will be closed between its junctions with Welford Road and Lancaster Road.

The council said there would be parking restrictions during the work and that diversions would be in place.

The work had been scheduled during the Easter holidays to try to minimise disruption, the authority added.
