A man has been charged with murdering his mother at a seaside home.

Rachel Dixon, who was in her 40s, died after being seriously injured in Skelmersdale Road, Clacton-on-Sea, at 11:30 GMT on Friday.

Detectives charged Oliver Grange with her murder and the 24-year-old appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court earlier.

"This loss will be felt throughout the victim's family and by her friends and my thoughts remain very much with them at this time," Det Ch Insp Greg Wood said.

The incident was attended by police, paramedics and an air ambulance crew.

Mr Grange was taken to hospital in a "serious condition" after sustaining injuries in what police described as a separate incident.

His next court appearance was fixed at Chelmsford Crown Court on Friday.

Det Ch Insp Wood added: "As our work progresses, our determined priority is now to ensure we fully understand what happened in the hours and days leading up to this incident."
