A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 50-year-old man was struck by a van and died.

The victim was hit by the vehicle on Broadway in Chadderton, Oldham, at about 18:40 GMT on Wednesday in what witnesses described as a "road rage" incident.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said two drivers reportedly became involved in an altercation close to the Elk Mill roundabout, before one got back into his vehicle and drove at the other one.

A 32-year-old man is being questioned in police custody.

The victim died at the scene and GMP said specialist officers were supporting his family.

Det Ch Insp David Moores said: "A man tragically lost his life and we are supporting his family as we continue our work.

"Ultimately, we want to get them the answers that they deserve as we fully establish all the circumstances which led to their loved one losing his life."

He appealed for dashcam footage or any information about the incident, adding: "Even the smallest amount of information could prove extremely beneficial to our work."
