Charity ride collects 8,000 eggs for children

Motorcyclists made their way around the streets of Stoke-on-Trent on Sunday as part of a charity egg run.

The Star Bikers event got under way at 11:00 BST when nearly 2,000 riders set off from Stoke City's stadium.

The annual ride, now in its 46th year, toured the city and collected more than 8,000 easter eggs for underprivileged children.

Jamie Porter from Star Bikers said the turnout had been "absolutely phenomenal".

"As soon as the weather's sunny, it's always a good one," Mr Porter said.

"People have travelled from Manchester, Wolverhampton and even as far as Wales to get involved."

Mr Porter said the support the event had received from the community was "hard to put into words".

"Seeing everyone dress up and make an effort and wave to spectators is heartwarming.

"It's something that makes me everyone else on the committee proud to be a part of."

Mr Porter said the cost of living crisis meant that Easter eggs were a luxury.

"What we aim to do is provide a little bit of happiness to children and families who would otherwise go without."

Mr Porter added that there were still more donations to be counted.

"We expect the total amount of eggs to be more than 10,000 as we still have 140 drop-off points across the city that we need to collect from."
