The new micropub will open Thursday to Sunday and will take measures to keep the noise down for nearby residents

Plans to convert a fish and chip shop in into a micropub have been given approval.

Barnsley Council has rubber-stamped plans for Darton Fisheries on Church Street to be turned into a small bar offering bottled beers, wines and cocktails.

It will be licensed to open seven days a week, but the owner has stated it will only open between Monday and Wednesday during busy periods such as Christmas, or when hired for events.

The owners have agreed to a series of measures to keep noise disturbance down, with only low-volume background music, no external speakers and no live performances.

Barnsley Council's planning officers assessed the impact on the surrounding area.

Their report found nearby retail and residential premises were already accustomed to commercial activity, with several venues in the area already operating until 11:00 GMT without causing issues for residents, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Staff would either car-share or use public transport, and deliveries would be minimal, made by the owner in personal car from local wholesalers.

Last orders will be be later than 22:30 GMT on any day, including weekends, and outdoor seating must close by 21:00 GMT.
