Residents oppose shop's plan for all-night pizzas

A Devon pizza shop's attempt to extend its opening hours into the early hours of the morning has been described as "ridiculous".
Plymouth City Council's licensing sub committee is set to review an application on Tuesday from Domino's Pizza Westcountry Limited to change the closing time at its Plympton store from 23:00 to 05:00.
The application has been criticised by some councillors and residents who have raised concerns over possible noise and disruption from delivery drivers.
The owners of the takeaway, which is part of the Chaddlewood Shopping Centre, said they would work with police to alleviate any concerns raised.
'Constant slamming'
Ian Poyser, councillor for Plympton Chaddlewood, said he felt the application was inappropriate as the premises was next to a residential area, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
The Green councillor said: "Granting this licence risks undermining residents' right to quiet enjoyment of their homes during night-time hours."
Several residents who live near the site have also expressed their disapproval at the application.
A resident whose house faces the rear of the store said they had to put up with constant slamming of car doors, employees shouting at each other, loud music being played from car stereos and engines being revved.
The resident said they thought it was "ridiculous" a pizza shop in a suburban area would want to stay open until 05:00.
"Where is their market research to show this will be viable in a built-up residential area with local residents living so close?" the resident added.
'Co-operate with police'
Domino's said doors and windows would be kept closed at night to reduce noise and music would not be played in the premises.
"We would have no hesitation in banning people who visit the store and regularly leave the premises in a noisy fashion," a spokesperson said.
They added delivery drivers would be instructed to enter and leave the site quietly and the store would work with police officers if any problems were brought to their attention.
"We will actively co-operate with the local police to ensure that we were made aware of particular problems which affect the area and which may potentially affect our store," they said.
