A man has been arrested after a woman was raped in a layby.

Police said the incident happened between 17:00 and 18:00 BST on Woodhouse Lane near Shifnal in Shropshire on Sunday.

A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape on Monday and remained in custody, West Mercia Police said.

The force added the woman, in her 30s, was being supported by specially trained officers.

Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident to get in contact.

PC Ethan Doore said: "We are also keen to hear from anyone who may have seen a woman walking along Woodhouse Lane shortly afterwards or a black Audi A4 S Line parked in the layby at the time.

"We hope this information may help jog people's memories."
