Books returned to university library 20 years late

An apologetic former student has finally returned three books they borrowed from a university library 20 years ago.

The overdue books, along with a handwritten note, were delivered to the librarian at the University of Oxford's Lady Margaret Hall college.

The borrower explained they discovered the books while sorting through some of their belongings and that they had "inadvertently" been in possession of the them since they were an undergraduate.

They signed off their note asking for the library to "please forgive me", which it duly did with a Facebook post thanking them for "getting them back home in the end".

"All is forgiven"! the library added.

Fines for overdue books at the library on Norham Gardens, Oxford, are normally charged at 10p per day.

Long overdue books face a £10 fine plus the cost of the book's replacement.
