Emergency work on listed hotel nears completion

Emergency repair work to stop the collapse of a historic former hotel in Droitwich Spa is almost complete, a council has said.
Wychavon District Council stepped in to begin the work on the Raven Hotel building in December, after the owner missed a deadline to take action following a court order issued when parts of the guttering fell into the road.
The authority said required work to the building by Live Urban Two was either not completed or inadequate.
Work completed on the Grade II-listed building includes the installation of scaffolding and netting to stop more debris falling.
Propping was also placed inside the building to prevent internal collapse.
The council said asbestos had been found in the roof, and work to address it safely would take place in the coming weeks.
The cost of the emergency repairs and scaffolding would be charged to the owner, it added.
"Once work to the roof has been completed, we will have fulfilled the requirements of the court order," said Jayne Pickering, deputy chief executive of the council.
"We continue to push for the redevelopment of the site to begin as soon as possible.
"We have received assurances the developer remains committed to the project and will work with our team to safeguard this important part of Droitwich Spa's heritage."
