Two seriously hurt in lorry and car crash

Two people are in a serious condition in hospital following a crash between a car and lorry.

A grey Mini Copper S collided head-on with a MAN Articulated lorry travelling in the opposite direction on Watergate Bank in Gateshead at about 02:15 GMT on Thursday a, Northumbria Police said.

The drivers of both vehicles and a passenger were all taken to hospital for treatment.

Police said one person has since been discharged while the others remain in a serious but stable condition.

The A692 between Lobley Hill and Sunniside was closed in both directions while the vehicles were removed, but reopened at about13:00 GMT on Thursday.

Northumbria Police appealed for witnesses to come forward as it continued to investigate the crash.
