A delayed cancer centre in Aberdeen should be open to patients from early next year, according to NHS Grampian.

The Anchor Cancer Centre and Baird Family Hospital were due to open in 2020, but have both faced significant delays.

Papers to go before the NHS Grampian board on Thursday said the most recent budget forecast of £261.1m remained under pressure. The figure is £100m more than the initial budget.

The report added the Anchor Centre should be completed by December this year, with services moving in at the start 2026.

A separate update on the completion of the Baird Family Hospital is expected in June.

Work on the project had been paused for a design review focused on healthcare acquired infection.

Several design issues related to water and ventilation were identified as requiring potential amendments.

Dozens of sinks may need to be removed due to concerns about water safety, with a final decision expected this month.

The contractor has also been instructed to relocate a tank which stores liquid nitrogen, due to its close proximity to a helipad.

Hospital helipad guidance was updated to require greater distance between landing pads and structures after a fatal helicopter downwash accident at Plymouth Derriford Hospital.

The hospital is a large, four storey white and grey building. Part of the building is blue and extends from the front of the hospital.
