A teenager has been charged with assault after two people were injured at a Church of England secondary school on Friday.

Emergency services were called to Manshead C of E Academy in Caddington, Bedfordshire at about 13:40 BST to reports of a pupil believed to be in possession of a knife.

Bedfordshire Police said the two people who were attacked have both been discharged from hospital and their injuries were not deemed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

A 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with assault and threatening a person with a bladed article and is due in court on Monday.

The boy was arrested at the school, which is on the edge of Dunstable.

The police force has not said whether he was a pupil or whether the two injured people were pupils, staff or visitors.

Police said they would remain in the area over the coming days to "provide ongoing support to the school and local community".

The teenager has been remanded in custody and is due at Luton Magistrates' Court.
